Email Fern with tasks and requests

Send tasks and documentation requests to Fern via email. Each workspace has a unique inbound email address that you can use to ask Fern to create tasks.

Before you begin: You'll need access to workspace settings to find your Email Fern address.

Find your Email Fern address

  1. Navigate to Settings from your dashboard sidebar

  2. Select Email Fern from the settings menu

  3. Copy your unique inbound email address

Configure allowed senders

By default, only emails from team members can create tasks. To allow internal senders (like automated systems or forwarded emails), enable Allow internal senders in the Email Fern settings.

Enabling internal senders allows any email address to send requests to Fern. Only enable this if you need to forward emails from support tools or automation systems, as this is much less secure.

How to use Email Fern

  1. Send an email to your workspace's Email Fern address

  2. Write your task in the subject or body

  3. Fern processes the request and creates a draft in your workspace

Save your Email Fern address to contacts for quick access from mobile or other tools.

Common use cases

  • Forward support tickets: Send customer questions directly to Fern to draft documentation.

  • Mobile requests: Email Fern documentation needs while away from your desk.

  • Automation: Integrate with Zapier, Make, or other tools to trigger documentation requests automatically.

Security

Your Email Fern address is unique to your workspace. Anyone with this address can create drafts, and in some cases, even read your codebase, so keep it private.

Contact support if you need to rotate your address.
